As difficult and shocking as it may be to find your baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the time you spend with your baby can be special. Whether your baby is admitted to the NICU as a preemie or a full-term baby struggling with health problems, these can be frightening, worrisome times.

Your involvement as a parent can be instrumental in your babys overall health and development. Use the hours and days (weeks or months for some!) you share with your baby in the NICU to bond and share experiences. Even through the isolettes, the IVs, and the constant monitoring, your baby is aware of your presence, and thrives with your attention.

These are tough times. Unfortunately, the rest of the world doesnt stop when our babies are sick. Sometimes other things also need our attention, and we feel the pull of many concerns. Whatever amount of time you are with your baby, cherish the time you are there. Be aware that what may be a little thing to you may mean the world to your child.

Attempt to look for the positives in your situation for the sake of your baby and your family. Cherish every moment you are with your child, as any time with a child is a precious gift. The memory book we have created allows you to tell the unique story of your baby- just the way it happened. It may not all be pleasant, but you can be sure that the experiences you and your family go through can be used to help bond you together.

Tell your story...the memories of when you and baby first fought to go home will become a story to treasure.
